Rigid Cone, Maximum Control

Driving the SS15-22 is a 3" diameter, 4-layer copper voice coil wound on a vented aluminum former. The multi-layer winding increases motor strength and control by maximizing coil presence in the gap, while the aluminum former acts as a heat sink to pull heat away from the coil during demanding playback. Extensive venting throughout the motor structure—including the former, pole piece, spider, and voice coil gap—ensures efficient airflow and cooling, minimizing compression even at sustained high power.
Optimized Motor for Low Distortion
The SS15-22 employs a massive, FEA-optimized, triple-stacked magnet assembly that generates a powerful and symmetrical magnetic field. This ensures the cone moves identically forward and backward, greatly reducing distortion at high excursion. Precision-machined plates with sculpted edges maximize magnetic transfer through the gap. In addition, the inclusion of an aluminum shorting sleeve, top plate ring, and pole cap keeps inductance linear throughout the entire stroke, reducing non-linearities and distortion while extending clean output into the midbass range.
Consistent Performance at High Excursion
To maintain rock-solid stability during high excursion, the SS15-22 uses a dual spider suspension spaced far apart for maximum cone and coil alignment. This design eliminates rocking and ensures reliable pistonic movement even under extreme loads. Stitched tinsel leads are integrated into the top spider to prevent fatigue and eliminate noise from lead slap, ensuring durability and consistent performance for years of demanding use.
