Dayton Audio SS8-PR 8" Signature Series Passive Radiator.
The Dayton Audio SS8-PR 8" Signature Series Passive Radiator is designed to deliver deep, controlled bass extension in compact enclosures, making it the perfect partner for the SS8-22 subwoofer. By replacing a traditional port with a passive radiator, you can achieve powerful low-frequency performance without the turbulence, noise, or oversized cabinet requirements of vented designs.
To maintain a seamless look with the Signature Series subwoofers, the SS8-PR uses the same heavy-duty cast aluminum frame, thick anodized aluminum cone, and high-roll rubber surround. From the front, it looks identical to the SS8-22 driver, ensuring a clean, unified appearance in your system. The rigid cone and surround are designed to withstand the long excursion needed to match today’s high-output subwoofers while keeping distortion low.
All of the additional mass for the SS8-PR is supported in Dayton Audio’s Sandwich Mass Structure (SMS). This design locates all added tuning mass between the spider and the surround, where it moves in perfect symmetry with the diaphragm. A threaded bolt with both a wing nut and a nylock nut makes it easy to adjust, secure, and fine-tune the added mass. Each SS8-PR includes five 46 g weights, giving you precise control over tuning frequency and performance.
Compact, powerful, and easy to integrate, the Dayton Audio SS8-PR is the perfect way to get the most out of your SS8-22 subwoofer system. With its matching aesthetics, durable construction, and SMS tuning system, it combines performance, flexibility, and style in one package — delivering the deep, distortion-free bass that today’s music and home theater systems demand.
Tip: As a general rule, the passive radiator(s) should have at least double the displacement of air (Vd) as the active woofer(s)/subwoofer(s) in the system. To calculate Vd=Xmax ∗ Sd
